It this is your hue, shop our full assortment of blue tile.

11. Wood-Look Floor Tile

Real wood is prone to water damage and can trap bacteria–not the most suitable material for a bathroom–but wood-look porcelain or luxury vinyl tile (like the Cyrus Plus Akadia tile shown here) will give the appearance of real wood without the headache.

12. Picture Frame

Highlight a favorite mosaic or patterned tile in a picture frame. Using layered trim, you can create a decorative focal point in your bathroom or shower that will add a highly designed elegance to your space. This is also a great way to incorporate a loved tile that might be overwhelming in the entire space or add visual texture with an intricate mosaic like the Firenze Calcatta Hex tile shown here.

Featuring: Firenze Calacatta Amalfi, Firenze Calacatta, Firenze Calacatta Curb, Firenze Calacatta, Firenze Calacatta Hex, Firenze Calacatta Bullnose and Firenze Calacatta Flat Corner Shelf.

13. Coastal Chic

Embrace a breezy beach lifestyle with a charming coastal-inspired pattern like the Summerland by Jeffery Alan Marks in Miramar shown here. This faded linen pattern is everything we love about a sun-kissed summer day. The woven light fixtures and soft grey subway tile add to the relaxed ambiance of this primary bathroom.

This stunning bathroom designed by Kate Pearce Vintage goes bold with a geometric patterned tile. The rust orange and charcoal shapes of the Artisan Tiare tile give this space an air of both orderliness and fun. The white walls and ceiling allow this pattern to be the star and the simple brown, white and red accessories blend into the color scheme, making the greenery to stand out.

You don’t need to live in a downtown loft to utilize contemporary industrial style. We love how she incorporated the plant and nature print for an organic softness that contrasts with the dark tile.

Modern trends of sustainability, wellness and personalized luxury aren’t likely to go out of style any time soon. Whether you’re constructing the primary bath of your dreams or renoing your powder room, these sleek and chic modern bathroom design ideas are sure to spark inspiration for your next project. Shop our full selection of bathroom tile to find your personal style.

1. Modern Bathroom Floor Tile Ideas

Checkerboards are a modern design win! But we’re thinking beyond black and white for a floor that uses natural stone to create the classic style. This bathroom designed by Timber Trails features the Bucak Light Walnut travertine tile and the Arctic White marble tile to create a chic and unique floor.

2. Dark Industrial Look

This bathroom designed by West Bay Homes is a chic take on modern industrial design. The Softcement Graphite cement-look porcelain floor and wall tile give this bathroom a cool, contemporary feel, while the black marble-look shower tile provides an extra sense of drama. The plant and the nature print on the wall add some softness to the space.

3. All-Over Marble Tile

Personalization is key to luxury. If your space fills you with joy and a sense of well-being, then it will feel luxurious to you (and ultimately, that’s all that matters). For this lavish bathroom, designer Nikki Chu chose to go all out with Ashford Carrara. This marble collection includes everything from large-format tiles to mosaics and trims, making it possible to create a highly designed and cohesive space.

It's better in real life. Order $3 samples.

4. Blush Bricks

The Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria Petal is as chic as it is pretty. The pink is light enough to be neutral while lending a gentle feminine hue to this elegant bathroom. The brick-look tile gives this space the charm of a city loft but with an extra air of refinement.

This chic modern bathroom features blush-colored brick-look shower tile and mosaic floor tile.
Featuring: Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria and Genoa Mosaic. Design by Alison Victoria.

5. Sleek & Chic Marble Look

The luxury of marble is combined with the durability and easy maintenance of porcelain tile for a sustainable and elegant design. Shades of deep blue and grey create a dramatic contrast to the winter white background of the Alvarado matte tile. Man-made porcelain and ceramic marble-look tiles can feature colors not found in nature, but with the realistic look of marble veining, they create a striking modern design.

This modern bathroom features stunning grey large-format marble-look tile with bold dark grey veining.

6. Brilliant Blues

The color of the sky and sea, blue can brighten your mood like no other hue. The emphasis on wellness in modern design is about choosing colors and materials that connect with the natural world for a serotonin boost to get you through the day. Check out 12 of Our Best Blue Bathroom Tile Designs and shop our full selection of blue tile for more ideas on how to incorporate this brilliant hue in your design.

7. Authentic Handmade Zellige

Handcrafted using centuries-old techniques, no two perfectly imperfect Zellige tiles will ever be alike. The beauty of this tile lies in its uneven surfaces and natural color variation. What makes this ancient tile modern is the authenticity that will infuse your space with one-of-a-kind luxury.

8. Fluted Wood-Look Tile

Wood-look tiles connect you to nature and increase feelings of wellness. With their added shading and texture, fluted wood-look tiles will create a space with lots of visual interest that will nonetheless relax your mind. We love how this ceramic tile captures the essence of an outdoor retreat.

9. Vintage-Made-Modern Hexagon

Trends are cyclical, meaning colors and styles that were in vogue in the twentieth century are making a resurgence. Vintage hexagon tiles are starting to appear in modern designs like this chic white and gold bathroom designed by Alison Victoria. Notice how the subtle veining in the marble hexagons adds a sense of movement to the floor.

This bright modern white bathroom features a small hexagon marble tile floor.
Featuring: Hampton Carrara Hex. Design by Alison Victoria.

10. Soft Wavy Edges

Curved edges will add softness to your tile design. Popsicle, scalloped and penny rounds are all excellent choices for creating a gentle edge, but we love the ultra-modern Wave tiles (shown here in Old Cream). The tiles can be installed in a variety of ways for a personalized design that’s sure to make a splash!

11. Modern Bathroom Shower Tile Ideas

Make a statement in your shower with a modern mosaic or patterned tile. The Mondrian Mosaic tile, inspired by the abstract art of the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, mixes marble and travertine for a space that’s full of beauty and movement. The effect is sleek and modern, creating a focal point in the shower.

12. Good-Vibe Greens

Like blue, green is associated with the outdoors. Infuse the serotonin-inducing hue into your bathroom design for a modern style that focuses on wellness and the natural world. This chic bathroom designed by Kelli Fontana Vogelgesang features the Sawyer Emerald picket tile, complemented by the mint green bathroom walls for a lush and inviting look. For more wellness- and outdoor-focused ideas, check out our guide to “biophilic design.”

13. Picket Tile

A twist on the classic subway, picket tile is a modern trend with a lot of staying power. The neat, orderly lines and the characteristic pointed edge give this tile a chic and unique look that’s compatible with a multitude of styles. We love how the Lanse Matte Black Picket is installed diagonally and paired with modern fixtures for a look that’s at once elegant and edgy.

14. Cool and Contemporary Limestone

Authentically unique natural stone embodies everything we love about modern style. This limestone shower is bright and clean and contemporary while still feeling classic. The subtle veining in the stone creates a sense of movement to this space, while the shower niches add functionality and design.

15. Unique Subway Patterns

Rethink your subway tile design for an ultra-modern, personalized look. Mix up your vertical and horizontal layout for an unexpected design that will add interest to your walls. This blocked vertical and horizontal stack design is a contemporary and fun way to showcase subway tile.

We invite you to step inside Chef’s Delight, the newest home from Timber Trails Development Company. Join lead designer Julie Howard as she walks you through this beautifully designed Chicago-area home and shares the inspiration and tile choices behind each space.

Keep scrolling for a closer look at the inspiring spaces in this elegantly chic home!

Living Room

The fireplace is the focal point of this bright and open living room. The Noir Honed limestone tile with its subtle silver veining creates a stunning harth with lots of visual texture. The dark fireplace against the white wall creates a solid base, which is balanced by the large abstract painting above.

Kitchen

In a house dubbed Chef’s Delight, you know the kitchen is going to be the star. Of course, the delight of this house is that it boasts not one but two kitchens with gorgeous tile choices in both. The primary kitchen features the Antique Mirror Bevel Glass tile above the stove. This reflective tile adds depth and shine to the room and complements the linear forms of the hood.

Scullery Kitchen

This second kitchen, or scullery kitchen, features more brilliant design choices. The Noir Honed tile (which we saw earlier on the fireplace) is paired with the Silver Mist honed limestone tile for a sophisticated checkerboard pattern. As Julie explained in the video, the linear veining on this tile creates a pattern within a pattern, but the Silver Mist tile is installed in alternating diagonals to maintain a sense of order and flow.

Featuring: Noir Honed, Silver Mist Honed and Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria Powder.

The Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria Powder blends blue and grey tones for an elegant backsplash that complements both the dark grey walls and grey and black floor tiles. Though the obvious choice for this backsplash might have been to use the same limestone tile as the floor, we’re glad Julie took a risk on this unexpected tile choice. The blue-grey elongated subway tile creates a beautiful transition between the white cabinets and granite countertops.

Bar

This gorgeous bar area is perfect for entertaining. The Look Avio handmade-look tile features variations in its blue-green coloring for a natural sense of movement. While handmade tiles often feature uneven edges, these handmade-look tiles have more uniformity, allowing for the neat straight lines accentuated by the white grout. The result is a highly designed look that creates order without being overly homogeneous.

Primary Bathroom

Nothing is more luxurious than marble, and this primary bathroom uses the Firenze Carrara to optimal effect, creating a clean, classic space. The herringbone pattern adds interest in the floor while maintaining the elegance of the room and the marble’s grey veining pairs nicely with the wooden cabinets and intricate, antique rug.

The Firenze Carrara tile extends to the shower walls, creating a lush, luxurious and rejuvenating space.

Laundry Room

Don’t you long to linger between loads in this lovely and inviting laundry room? The floral motif of the Elaizig Hex tile adds sophisticated whimsy to this room. We love how the bee prints above the sink tie in both thematically and aesthetically with the floral-inspired patterned tile.

Jack and Jill Bathroom

The custom tile design created with the Black and White Quarter Round tile is an unexpected moment that adds character to this charming Jack and Jill bathroom. The simple color palette gives this room depth while allowing the floor tile to claim the focal point of the space.

Kids’ Bathroom

The Imperial Black Matte Rhombus tile used in this charming kids’ bathroom proves that you can have fun in black and white. The shape is simple, yet playful–perfect for children–but can easily age as kids grow. With the right accessories, this room is suitable for young kids all the way up to teenagers and young adults.

The leaves are beginning to turn, the apples are ready for picking and the cool nights have us longing for a toasty place to relax in the evening. If you’re lucky enough to have a hearth in your home, these cozy fireplace ideas will spark inspiration! Like what you see? Shop our fireplace tile to get these looks and more.

1. Floor-to-Ceiling Fireplace Tile

No mantle? No problem. Make your fireplace a statement piece by centering your fireplace in floor-to-ceiling tile for a beautiful accent wall. This contemporary and elegant design technique works with virtually any tile, but we love how it looks here with the Vinica Mugla White architectural tile.

2. Warm and Welcoming Travertine

Want a fireplace that would look at home in a hunting lodge? Natural stone like travertine gives your fireplace a rustic, earthy vibe. The Claros Silver Split Face tile creates an inviting focal point for this room with its natural grey, beige and white tones.

3. Weathered Wood Look

This fireplace is a modern take on a rustic seaside cabin. We love how the faded details in the Colonial Wood White Brillo Rev add movement and color to this fireplace wall. If you like the look of natural wood but are anxious about installing it around an open flame, explore our wide selection of wood-look tiles.

4. Stately Patterns

Maybe rustic isn’t your aesthetic. A beautifully patterned tile fireplace harkens back to historical drawing rooms. Update this style with modern print for a look that’s both contemporary and classic. We love how the Laura Ashley Mr Jones Midnight shown here makes for an elegant focal point, and ties into the simple blue and gold accessories.

5. Sculptural Tile

Want a fireplace that really stands out? Sculptural or 3D tile will transform your fireplace into a work of three-dimensional art. If you love the extra dimension the Cube Gold AC tile brings to the room, explore our wide selection of 3D tile.

6. Brick Tile

Achieve the classic fireplace look with real brick tiles. These tiles are thin enough that you can install them on your fireplace surround and floor without them jutting out into the room. We love how these tiles make this fireplace designed by Timber Trails feel both modern and timeless. With Christmas around the corner this fireplace is the ideal place to hang a stocking.

8. Architectural Look

Imagine curling up in front of this stunning stone fireplace. Architectural-look tile creates the feel of a cabin in the woods, even if you are in the middle of the city. We love how the California Gold tile fireplace makes a statement even without a mantle, but this tile would look equally impressive as a more traditional fireplace surround.

Ideal for around the fireplace, be dazzled by the California Gold architectural tile.

9. Cool Stone

This black limestone tile creates a sleek fireplace moment that’s sure to impress. The natural shade variation and veining present in stone tile will transform your space with understated beauty. We love how the Noir Honed limestone tile creates movement and texture on this fireplace wall.

Get ready to step inside this breathtaking primary bathroom designed by the lovely husband and wife duo, Chris and Julia Marcum of Chris Loves Julia. The Marcums completed this project in their Idaho home earlier this year before recently moving across the country to North Carolina. Featuring our Silver Mist Honed Limestone collection, this dreamy bathroom is a perfect mix of contemporary and traditional, living up to the home’s modern cottage style.

Explore more of our favorite spaces featuring transitional style, plus tips on how to incorporate it into your own home!

When designing this space, Julia wanted to find a tile that would coordinate well with the bluish grey paint color used in the adjoining primary bedroom and closet. She fell in love with our Silver Mist collection for its beautiful mix of warm- and cool-toned greys.

I love choosing neutrals that lean toward a color, in this case, a warm blue, because it just makes it so much more interesting.

Julia Marcum, Chris Loves Julia

Julia dives into more detail about her decision to mix tiles from the Silver Mist collection on the Chris Loves Julia blog.

Featuring mosaics, trim, and field tiles in a variety of styles, our Silver Mist collection allows for endless customization options. Chris and Julia decided to use the offset Silver Mist Honed Amalfi Mosaic for all of the bathroom’s walls, while opting for the larger-scale 8″ x 20″ Silver Mist Tile on the floor.

Shop our vast assortment of grey tile to find the perfect option for your space.

In order to create smooth transitions between the wall’s painted surface and the wall tile, as well as between the wall and floor tiles, the Silver Mist Honed Barnes and Silver Mist Honed Skirting were incorporated into the space. Trim and accessory pieces such as these are the perfect way to ensure your design feels both custom and complete.

Not sure where to start when it comes to tile trim? We’ve put together a comprehensive guide for you with a breakdown of our different trim and accessory pieces, as well as how to integrate them into your design! If you’re ready to shop, check out our extensive assortment of finishing pieces.

One of our favorite aspects of the bathroom–the shower–features the Silver Mist Honed Amalfi Mosaic as well as the Silver Mist Honed Hex Mosaic for a playful mix of shapes that creates visual interest and added dimension while remaining cohesive.

We used 5 different tiles to create the foundation of a classic space that is all the same stone, but in so many different shapes it feels really tone on tone and creates the coolest texture story when they are all paired together!

-Julia Marcum, Chris Loves Julia

The choice to continue the Silver Mist Honed Amalfi Mosaic from the main area into the shower (even on the ceiling!) helps the overall bathroom design flow from one space to the next without feeling disconnected.

A lover of mixing metals, Julia used black plumbing faucets and lighting fixtures throughout the space while creating warmer accents with brass hardware. Doing so helped her achieve a lovely balance of both masculine and feminine styles.

If you’re yearning for the effortlessly luxurious feel that natural stone brings to a space, shop hundreds of unique styles of limestone, marble, travertine, and more on our website.

That’s a wrap on this modern cottage bathroom! Drooling? Don’t worry, us too.

This actually isn’t the first time we’ve worked with Chris Loves Julia! We partnered with them on the backsplash for their very first kitchen remodel, as well the flooring throughout their last home. We are continuously inspired by their stunning design work and are thrilled to be able to partner with them on spaces such as these.
